With Nina Jung, L.Ac. of JungWay and Ashlee Gendron, DPT of AG Physical Therapy.

Why the jaw and the pelvic floor together

The jaw and the pelvic floor mirror each other.

Fascia does not stop at a joint. The line that runs from the jaw down through the front of the body ties into the pelvic floor. When one is held in tension chronically, the other usually is too.

The nervous-system half is even more direct. Both the jaw and the pelvic floor tighten in response to threat. Real threat, remembered threat, or the low-grade threat of a body that has not been able to fully rest in years. Releasing one without releasing the other rarely holds for long.

Once you start noticing it in patients, it is hard to unsee.

What this session works on

Three connected systems, one appointment.

Jaw and pelvic floor connection

Chronic jaw tension can keep the pelvic floor on high alert. Releasing the jaw helps the pelvic floor soften. Your nervous system feels safe to let go.

Nervous system regulation

The session calms the stress response, supports deep relaxation, and helps you feel safe, grounded, and in your body again.

Pelvic floor release

Manual pelvic floor work softens tension, improves circulation, and supports function. That reduces pain, pressure, and leakage.

What actually happens in a session

Two providers work with you at the same time.

Your session is completely personalized to your body, symptoms, and goals.

We begin with an East Asian Medicine health intake, where Nina learns about your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, stress, and the patterns contributing to your pain or dysfunction. This helps guide your acupuncture treatment so it addresses what's actually driving your pain or dysfunction, not just what's showing up on the surface.

While Ashlee assesses and treats the pelvic floor, Nina uses acupuncture and, when appropriate, buccal massage (an intraoral release of the jaw) to address the jaw-pelvic connection through the nervous system, fascia, and East Asian Medicine.

Buccal massage is typically introduced during your second session, once we've completed your assessment and determined it's the right fit for your treatment plan.

What a first visit includes

  1. East Asian Medicine Health Intake. Nina reviews your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, stress, and treatment goals to create a personalized acupuncture plan.
  2. Postural & Movement Assessment. Ashlee evaluates your posture, breathing, pelvis, spine, and movement patterns to identify areas of restriction and imbalance.
  3. Pelvic Floor Assessment & Treatment. Ashlee performs internal pelvic floor work (with your consent), identifying areas of tension, tenderness, and restriction.
  4. Personalized Acupuncture Treatment. Nina selects acupuncture points specific to your body, helping calm the nervous system while supporting the jaw, pelvis, and the body's natural healing response.
  5. Future Sessions. As your body progresses, treatments may include buccal massage, an intraoral release of the jaw muscles that complements acupuncture and pelvic floor therapy for deeper fascial and nervous system release.

Every session is personalized. No two treatments are exactly alike. We continually adapt your care based on how your body responds, ensuring each visit meets you where you are.

Most patients leave feeling calmer, lighter, and more connected to their bodies. Our goal isn't simply to reduce pain. It's to help your nervous system shift into a state where healing can happen.

A different angle of the co-treatment. Nina performs facial and jaw work at the patient's head while Ashlee supports the lower body during a Reconnection Session at AG Physical Therapy.

This is for you if you are

Who this session is for.

  • Preparing for labor and want to feel more open and calm.
  • Recovering from birth and want to heal and reconnect.
  • Holding stress in your jaw, neck, or pelvic floor.
  • Looking to enhance your glow and support beauty from within.
  • Wanting more ease, confidence, and connection in intimacy and sex.

We also see the session help patients with:

  • Painful intercourse and vaginismus.
  • Endometriosis with a nervous-system driver.
  • Chronic pelvic pain, especially when the brain has learned a pain circuit and the tissue keeps signaling.
  • Hypertonic pelvic floor.
  • Urinary leakage or incontinence, especially postpartum.
  • TMJ and chronic jaw clenching that co-occurs with pelvic tension.
A recent case

A pregnant patient with hip pain that traced back to the pelvic floor.

A pregnant patient came in with what she thought was right hip pain radiating into her glute.

Ashlee found the point internally that was referring pain into the posterior glute. She held pressure until she felt the muscle pulse. Nina found the anterior fascial line of the adductors, which ties into the same connection point as the pelvic floor, and needled it.

Ashlee felt the muscle completely release under her hand. The patient said the pain was gone.

That isn't every session. But it is the mechanism at its clearest.

When we hold off or refer out

Some situations we won't proceed with, or introduce more slowly.

In pregnancy, if the OB has flagged any of the following, we hold:

  • Insufficient cervix
  • Low amniotic fluid
  • Placenta previa

We always ask about these before we begin.

Sexual trauma history

This session can be exactly the right work, but not necessarily as the first entry point. Two providers, internal manual work, and needles at the same time can be too much too soon. We start slower, often with just one modality at a time, and move into the co-treatment when your system is ready.
